Very nice new halal place. They offer most of the classic NY halal sandwiches and rice dishes. I got to try their chicken over rice platter, which also included a small salad and some French fries with white sauce. It was overall, quite good. The salad was quite forgettable, mostly lettuce. Some dressing and a few cucumbers. The fries were pretty solid. Nicely seasoned and also came with a sauce (maybe garlic sauce, I'm not sure). The chicken was the main part of the meal, and it was good. A little bit tough at some pieces (and some pieces seemed too fatty -- consistency wasn't the best), but overall solid. Not sure what cut of chicken is used. I really like the sauce and rice is oily but fine. Theres another place just like this called Pitt Halal Brothers and I do prefer them over this spot but it's still solid.
My brother-in-law recommended this spot, and it did not disappoint! The food is fresh and customizable, so you can have it made just the way you like. We ordered the chicken over rice and lamb over rice, both were flavorful, generously portioned, and very affordable. The portions are huge for the price, which makes it even better. Really enjoyed the food and would definitely recommend this place!
Loved the Shrimp Rice. I thought it was just going to be shrimp and rice, but it came with a small salad and a side of fries. I asked for and got white sauce on all 3 things and that sauce was amazing. The shrimp were huge and tasty. Fries were great too. All of the food was extremely fresh. Lots of food for the price. The only bad thing is that I live an hour away and I don’t come to Pittsburgh much - so I don’t know when I’ll be able to eat there again!
Friendly staff and great food. The rice was nice and fluffy, the sauces were on point, and the meats were juicy. One standout is the gyro: I don’t know whether it’s homemade or store bought, but it tasted better than the ones I’ve had from similar restaurants. It was crispier and more flavorful. One sour point, however, were the fries. As part of the platter, you get fries and mine were cold. I am guessing this is for speediness as it would generate a longer line if every order had fresh fries. It wasn’t a big deal, since the food was delicious regardless. I would definitely head back.
Stumbled upon this place across from the August Wilson Center. Excellent food at an amazing price!! Staff and cooks were very kind.
It was good. Not really NYC street cart style, but better than other offerings downtown. It comes with fries, definitely a PGH thing. The gyro meat is cubed and likely deep fried. It was ok, but I prefer thinly sliced off the spit. Chicken was very red but flavorful, again, atypical. It looked kind of indian influenced. Rice was some kind of brown basmati which was ok, but not as good as the yellow kind from the cart. It was drenched in garlic sauce, not quite as thick or garlicky as "white sauce" but better than tzatziki. Salad has lots of ingredients instead of just LTO - carrots, pickles, bell pepper, olive, banana pepper, etc. If you were not from NYC you wouldn't know it wasn't like NYC but it's good nonetheless. My portion was very large. Will be eating the same container tomorrow.
